In spite of intensive research, why a slow down in finding cure for cancer?

Is the medical lobby- a trillion dollar industry-, which thrive on diseases, suppressing or trying to thwart the advent in cures of most of the deadly diseases? What happened to Craig Venter's ground-breaking research on Genomes? There are cures in Ayurveda, but due to lack of R and D, the area is still gray. I think alopathic doctors and pharma industries should be now less greedy and turn to nutritional medicines and help research in cures for serious diseases. Its high time.
