What in your personal opinion is the legacy of Beethoven?

Beethoven was one of the giants of music. He reinvented clical music and initiated the romantic period. See the movies "Eroica" and "Immortal Beloved" (available from Netflix). Very few composers have had more impact on music as a whole. He will still be played and appreciated for centuries to come. He was a genius.
