What ever happened to Fluffy (HP)?

Everyone knows Fluffy from Harry Potter, but what actually happened to him? I mean, does Fluffy actually live in the 3rd floor corridor? If he was actually put in there, how did he get in there if Hogwarts has no means of teleporting through Hogwarts? Also what ever happened to him after the 1st book?
